The RVL Group maintains and operates two aircraft for this rapid response organisation concerned with the effective and timely management of any oil spills.
A Cessna 310 is maintained at Coventry on a 24 hour / 365 day per week rapid call out basis. This aircraft can be airborne within 30 minutes of a call out and can reach any location within UK waters rapidly.
The aircraft is equipped with a range of survey and remote sensing equipment to allow a rapid assessment and survey of any oil spillage. Airborne satellite communications capability then allows that information to be rapidly sent from over the scene to any world wide location for analysis.
In addition a Cessna 406 turbine aircraft is similarly maintained on a 24/7 call out basis for both aerial survey and for the delivery of dispersant which can be sprayed on an oil spill from the aircraft.
This method of small scale dispersant spray was developed by the RVL group and is available for use by OSRL and HM Coastguard.
